The Power of Unity…Through Organizational Alignment

One of the most powerful tools an organization can use to realize its optimal potential is the power of unity realized through organizational alignment. This tool is often overlooked and not embraced by many organizations, yet provides a great return on investment. The power of any organization can be unleashed through the alignment of vision, leveraging of strengths, and the intentional focus achieved through the development and execution of a unique framework which connects all of the dots.

There is a famous story from the Bible which reflects the power of unity and its application in modern times, the Tower of Babel found in Genesis 11. The world had gone through the flood and was in the process of expanding and the people were of one language and had a shared vision of building a city that reached the sky so that the world would know who they were. “The Lord said, "If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them." (Genesis 11:6, NIV). The unity reflected in this example is that of one language and one plan. In the business world we call this shared vision, strategic planning, and effective execution of the plan. When these components are defined, aligned, and integrated into the day-to-day delivery of products and services, the Power of Unity can be unleashed within your organization. A quote by Dick Wynn best states this relationship, “Vision without a strategy and a plan for implementation is hallucination”. Here are several questions, which when answered honestly may let you know the level of unity being experienced within your organization:

  1. Does each person within your organization share the same organizational vision, or even know it exist?
  2. Does each of your stakeholders know how they contribute to the vision in their day-to-day roles?
  3. Does your organization have a clear strategic plan?
  4. Are each of your stakeholders aware of the progress being made toward the fulfillment of the strategic plan?
  5. Do you have effective measures outlined which allow stakeholders to clearly recognize the progress being made?

The answers to these questions can bring the necessary awareness to start you on the path of unleashing the power of unity within your organization. Why not begin the journey today!
